TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND WHAT THEY MEAN

Red means stop.
Wait behind the stop
line on the carriageway
until the green shows.

Red & amber also
means stop. Do not
pass the stop line
until the green shows.
Green means
go if the
way is clear.
Amber means
stop. You may only
go on if the amber
appears after you
have crossed the
stop line or are so
close to it that to pull
up might cause an
accident.
Signs may also be placed
with traffic signals to qualify
the meaning of the green
signal by prohibiting a turning
movement or instructing
traffic to move only in a
certain direction.
Additional white
light signals may
be provided for
tram drivers.
If movement is allowed only in one direction,
a green arrow pointing in that direction may
replace the full green signal. Again, signs
may be used with these signals to reinforce
the message of the green arrows.
Green arrows may also be provided in addtion to the full green
signal if movement in a certain direction is allowed before or
after the full green phase. If the way is clear, you may proceed,
but only in the direction shown by the green arrow. You may do
this whatever other signals may be showing.

When the green arrow and full green signal are shown, you
may turn right while opposing traffic is held at a red signal.
At the same time, the full green signal allows the movement of
traffic in other directions.
